Seminole County has announced a hybrid public meeting for Deer Run community residents to be held on Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at 6:30pm.
The meeting will be held in person for a small number of people who are able to reserve tickets (they are available for free on a first come, first serve basis via Eventbrite). The in-person venue is MetroLife Church (910 S Winter Park Dr, Casselberry, FL 32707 ).
Covid-19 safety protocols for in-person attendance are as follows:
1. No one will be allowed entry without a mask.
2. Hand sanitizers will be available throughout the venue.
3. Tickets will be required to enter.
4. Seating capacity is limited to approximately 25%.
5. Seating in the venue will be socially distanced.
Other people who cannot/do not wish to attend in person would be able to view the meeting via Zoom. Participation is free but registration is required.
This meeting is the BIG ONE for Deer Run. The county is measuring resident participation as a gauge of public support for the county to purchase the former golf course, design a public park with desired community recreational activities, and design an MSBU (a type of special, voluntary taxing district to help offset cost of amenity improvements). If 50 people show up and participate either in person or virtually, the county will take that to mean there has been a small, vocal minority in the subdivision shouting more loudly than most residents support. If 500-800 people show up, then the county staff will take that as a sign there is both interest and support for continuing the MSBU process. We cannot stress this enough. Now is the time for Deer Run to put its proverbial money where its mouth is.
If you want to prevent the development of the former golf course, HERE IS YOUR CHANCE.
If you don't want to see hundreds of homes and/or apartments built on the former golf course, HERE IS YOUR CHANCE.
If you want to preserve green/open space in Seminole County, HERE IS YOUR CHANCE.
If you want to see the former Country Club at Deer Run purchased and preserved, HERE IS YOUR CHANCE.
If you want to see the former golf course turned into a public park with amenities determined by Deer Run residents, HERE IS YOUR CHANCE.
If you want to protect Sterling Park Elementary and make certain our little Eagles don't go to an overcrowded school, HERE IS YOUR CHANCE.
If you want to see your property values increase with the improvements that would be made by converting the former course into a public park, HERE IS YOUR CHANCE.
If you want to see stormwater/drainage and road improvements on Eagle Circle to alleviate flooding and traffic, HERE IS YOUR CHANCE.
There are dozens more reasons we could give everyone to support this meeting. So, please...we have been working for two years to SAVE DEER RUN. Please help us. We need your help now more than ever.
